The art of detecting harsh driving is a complex business, as bumps and crashes experienced by a vehicle (and as such the IVMS unit) are also affected by the condition of the road. There is however a simple way of ascertaining where a problem lies: if all drivers receive the ‘harsh driving’ rating in a certain spot, then the condition of the road needs to be revisited, with consideration for possible warning signs. If however any given driver constantly receives a ‘harsh driving’ rating when nobody else (using the same roads) does, then there obviously is a problem with that particular driver’s driving style and it needs to be addressed.
The Digicore IVMS system comes with tri-axial accelerometers for which the parameters can be changed over the air. This enables our IVMS customers to do tests and to then calibrate their systems to enforce a highly customised, acceptable driving style and behaviour. Get too many ‘harsh driving’ warnings across a large number of drivers? Changes are the system is too stringent and needs to be wound back a bit. Nobody ever gets a ‘harsh driving’ warning? Chances are the system is too relaxed and needs to be elevated somewhat.
