Executive summary
The Snowy Hydro IVMS rollout by Digicore helps people stay safe in rugged country with patchy mobile coverage. We are Snowy Hydro’s preferred IVMS partner. Therefore, we delivered hybrid cellular + satellite tracking, project-wide geofencing, driver ID, and clear in-cab speed alerts. As a result, Future Generation Joint Venture (FGJV) and its contractors get a simple, shared view of who is on site and how they are driving. In addition, we set up one boundary geofence so every contractor vehicle is recorded on entry and exit—which builds trust and a solid audit trail.
Local help when you need it: Installs and support are provided by ANM Auto Electrics, Cooma Auto Electrics and Tumut Auto Electrics. This keeps downtime low and roll-outs fast.

In a nutshell
- Where: Snowy Mountains, NSW (remote and hilly, with coverage gaps)
- Why: Keep people safe, reduce risky driving, and respond faster
- What: Hybrid cellular + satellite IVMS, project-wide geofencing, driver ID, in-cab alerts, simple reports
- Who: Digicore (preferred partner) with local Cooma and Tumut installers
The Snowy Hydro IVMS challenge
First, the terrain is tough. Mobile coverage drops in and out. As a result, standard telematics can miss urgent alerts.
Second, many contractors share the same roads. Therefore, FGJV needed fair and consistent oversight.
Third, traffic passes through nearby towns. So, speed management and good community relations matter.
Finally, tunnel works are expanding. Hence, the team needed a path for tracking in GPS-denied areas.

Our Snowy Hydro IVMS solution
Hybrid comms, fewer blind spots. We combine cellular + satellite. Consequently, SOS and other critical events still get through.
One boundary, everyone visible. A project-wide geofence covers the work zone. When a vehicle crosses the line, we log entry/exit with time, vehicle and (where used) driver ID. Then those events flow into shared dashboards and scheduled reports.
Smart speed control. We set geo-zoned speed limits with in-cab alerts. So, drivers get a gentle prompt before behaviour becomes a problem.
Driver accountability that helps coaching. Driver ID links behaviour to a real person. Therefore, conversations are fair, specific, and quick.
Tunnel-ready design. For underground areas, we proposed Bluetooth beacons with gateway-equipped trackers. As works move below ground, this approach scales.

How the boundary geofence helps
Here is the simple flow: cross the boundary → event captured → shared view.
Because everyone uses the same geofence, supervisors see who arrived, who left, and when. In turn, that supports mustering, shift checks, and clean investigations. Moreover, it reduces confusion between principal contractors and subbies.
Local rollout & support (Cooma and Tumut)
To keep projects moving, ANM Auto Electrics, Cooma Auto Electrics, and Tumut Auto Electrics handle installs and field support. As a result, units go in quickly, issues are fixed locally, and vehicles get back to work sooner.
Snowy Hydro IVMS results
- Faster response: Critical alarms reach the right people, even in blackspots.
- Fewer speeding events: In-cab prompts and simple reports lift standards.
- Shared truth for all contractors: Entry/exit logs build transparency and trust.
- Better community interface: Geofenced limits around towns support safer driving.
- Data you can use: Trip history and behaviour trends enable fair coaching.
- Ready for the next phase: Tunnel tracking is planned and scalable.
